On the occasion of the conferral of Honorary Life Membership of the Federal Liberal Party on Shane Stone, he was joined by Mr. Jamie de Brenni, President of the NT CLP, and Mrs. Alice de Brenni who were present at the Federal Council meeting in Canberra. Shane Stone is an Honorary Life Member of the NT CLP serving two terms as CLP President. The CLP is an independent conservative party, the third in the Coalition of the Liberal-National Government. CLP Federal Parliamentary members divide between the Liberal and National Party rooms. The CLP is the 'Territory Party' and all attempts to absorb the CLP into the Liberal or National Parties have been vigorously rejected. Shane Stone has been on the public record for decades defending the independence of the CLP. Notwithstanding various leading members of the CLP have worked closely on the campaign teams of the 'sister' parties Liberal and National. Shane Stone was the first Territorian and CLP member to be elevated to the Presidency of the Federal Liberal Party and the first to be conferred Honorary Life Membership. Photographed to mark the occasion, Mrs. Josephine Stone AM, holding the miniature bust of Sir Robert Menzies, Shane Stone holding the certificate, Jamie and Alice de Brenni. The certificate of membership was accompanied by a miniature bust of Liberal Party founder Sir Robert Menzies.
