The Administrator of the Northern Territory is an official appointed by the Governor-General of Australia to represent the Crown in right of the Northern Territory. They perform functions similar to those of a State Governor. In times past, the Chief Justice acted in the absence of the Administrator. The Stone Government resolved to formalise the appointment of a prominent citizen as the Deputy. As a resident of Alice Springs, Mrs Sitzler (daughter of the famous Paster Albrecht of Hermannsburg) and accomplished citizen in her own right, was well placed as a Centralian to represent an important constituency outside of Darwin. Minna was the first-ever appointed Deputy to the Administrator (at the time His Honour Dr Neil Conn AO), and served from February 17, 1997, to November 30, 2001. The Oath of Allegiance sworn by Mrs Minna Sitzler AM Deputy to the Administrator by His Excellency Sir William Deane AC KBE Governor-General of Australia.
