Opening of Chinese Museum Chung Wah Society

The NT Chinese Museum in Darwin opened in late 1996. The Museum was established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin and to showcase the history and contributions of the Chinese community in the Northern Territory. The museum was a project of the Chung Wah Society and was inspired by the "Chinatown '42" exhibition, which focused on the impact of World War II on Darwin's Chinatown. The museum's exhibits include photographs, historical texts, stories, and a modest collection of early memorabilia, highlighting the Chinese community's presence in Darwin since the 1880s. The museum is at the Chung Wah Society's headquarters at 25 Woods Street, Darwin. Prominent Territorian Mrs Norma Fong Lim wth Chief Minister Shane Stone.
