Sunday Territorian ' Katherine Flood Works'

A report in the Sunday Territorian concerning the further floodproofing of Katherine, in particular Katherine South. Media release attached from the NT Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics 'Flood Proofing for Katherine South: $10m for levee and drainage upgrade'. Note that the Federal Government through the National Recovery & Resilience Agency contributed $9.4m leaving a balance of $600,000 from the NT. It was a matter of great frustration that the Commonwealth money was paid to the NT Treasury but the project took over a year to materialise as the Territory claimed they did not have the requisite funds. The Agency found in dealing with the Gunner, Fyles Government there was little commitment to disaster planning. Attempts to raise issues around cyclone shelters in remote areas with met with indifference. All of the foregoing was compounded by the inaction of Minister Lawler.
