Parliament House Darwin Brief Desciption

18 August 1994

Pamphlet prepared for the public styled Parliament House Darwin, Brief Description of the Building and Grounds. The State Square project Parliament House (including the State Reference Library) and Supreme Court were controversial projects at the time dating from Chief Minister Steve Hatton and completed by Chief Minister Marshall Perron. The project secured the skills base in the Territory during a period of national economic turmoil. Minister Fred Finch played a critical role throughout from start to finish, a lasting and enduring legacy. Prime Minister Paul Keating rejected all invitations to participate in the opening notwithstanding he had supported the Loan Council application by the NT Government to finance the project. Parliament House Darwin stands as a reminder of the forward-thinking and economic accomplishments of successive CLP Governments.
