Investiture of the Gold Distinguished Service Medal

Chief Minister's Reception in honour of HRH Prince Edward. Earl of Wessex KG GCVO, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation. HRH Prince Edward's visit commemorated 60 years since the Award was first established in Australia. The reception hosted by the Hon Michael Gunner MLA and Ms Kristy O'Brien was held in the Nitmiluk Lounge, Parliament House, Darwin. The occasion also marked the Investiture of the former Chairman of the Award in Australia the Hon Shane L Stone AC PGDK QC, with the prestigious Gold Distinguished Service Medal. There have only been 13 such Medals awarded; Shane Stone was the 14th person to have received the honour ''for his service and extraordinary commitment and contributions to the Award'' in an honorary volunteer capacity. Former recipients include Dame the Honourable Maree Basheer AC, CVO; The Hon Sir Eric  Neal  AC CVO; His Honour Sir Adrian Curlewis CBE CVO; Michael Crouch AC and His Honour John Pascoe AC CVO. Shane and Josephine Stone are also Ambassadors of the award in Australia.
