Hughenden Irrigation Project

Hughenden Irrigation Project (HIPCO) laying of the foundation stone by Sir Leo Hielscher AC. A commemorative event to honour the funding commitment of the project. It is envisaged that the project can potentially capture up to 500,000 megalitres of water for agriculture. Sir Leo Hielscher AC a former Under Treasurer of QLD and Chairman of the Queensland Treasury Corporation Board widely acknowledged as a champion of northern development laid the Foundation Stone at Riverside Station. Left to right the Hon Scott Buchholz MP, Federal Member for Wright, Assistant Minister for RoadSafety and Freight Transport; the Hon Shane L. Stone AC QC, Chairman & CEO NQLIRA, Sir Leo Hielscher AC and Senator Susan MacDonald LNP Senator QLD. NQLIRA is vitally interested in developing resilience in the north including the effective preservation and use of water and the diversification of agricultural activity. The event was jointly sponsored by the Hon Bob Katter MP, Federal Member for Kennedy and Robbie Katter MP State Member for Traeger.
