Letter from Earl and Wendy James

13 February 1999

Correspondence from long-term Territorians Earl and Wendy James following the retirement of Shane Stone as Chief Minister of Australia's Northern Territory. Extensive mail, fax and telephone messages were received from throughout the Territory and from Australia wide, hence, a small selection of the correspondence has been included in the archives. Extract: ''My involvement in party politics covered over ten years and during that time you were Party President, Minister and Chief Minister. I admired your energy and commitment to the Territory and your skills as an articulate and passionate politician...your endeavours to secure a strong, stable economic base for the Territory will long be recognised and remembered. Having lived here almost continuously since 1937 I thank you most sincerely, you have made a difference and not many of us can make that claim''. Shane Stone responded April 30 and urged support for Denis Burke. See also Archive Documents NT News Editorial 'Platform for growth'.
