Email from former Federal President of the National Party

Correspondence of congratulations from Mrs Shirley McKerrow, former Federal President of the National Party of Australia. following the very successful 1997 General Election campaign that saw the return of the Stone CLP Government. Extensive mail, fax and telephone messages were received from throughout the Territory and from Australia wide following the resounding election victory, hence, a small selection of the correspondence has been included in the archives. Shane had first met Shirley McKerrow in her role as the President of the Country Party in Victoria. Following her retirement as Federal President she moved to Darwin and became an active member of the CLP. Extract: ''Throughout the campaign you conducted yourself with dignity and conviction and handled the media in a masterly fashion. May I say that you have developed a public persona which exudes not arrogance as the media would like to have it, but confidence and authority and above all veracity''.
