Letter from Howard Chew CA

15 February 1999

Correspondence from Mr Howard Chew CA, Former President of the Australia-China Friendship Society and President of the Ethnic Communities Council of the NT, following the retirement of Shane Stone as Chief Minister of Australia's Northern Territory. Extensive mail, fax and telephone messages were received from throughout the Territory and from Australia wide, hence, a small selection of the correspondence has been included in the archives. Extract: ''...you can justifiably feel proud about your achievement as NT Minister and Chief Minister. Under your leadership, the economy has gone from strength to strength. Your brought about greater understanding and contacts with our northern neighbours. It helps NT business development as a result. You have cultivated close links with the ethnic communities, youths, and women groups. You have been an energetic Chief Minister and great ambassador for the NT and Australia as a whole....I can confirm that you are held in very high regard in the communities...Your absence will be sadly missed''. Shane Stone responded on May 4 and urged support for Denis Burke.
