Letter from John Guy and family

11 February 1999

Correspondence from John Guy, an electrical contractor in Alice Springs following Shane Stone's retirement as Chief Minister. Extensive mail, fax and telephone messages were received from throughout the Territory and from Australia wide, hence, a small selection of the correspondence has been included in the archives. John Guy was a successful small businessman, a CLP member, writing on behalf of his family (extract): ''One can reflect on the highs and lows of your term of office but I am sure you can be pleased with handing over the Territory in what I believe is the best shape we have ever attained''. This was a welcome tribute from ''a local'' who at times was less than enthused with the Government of the day and wasn't backward in saying so. Shane Stone's response of 27 April is attached. He urged support for Denis Burke.
