Letter from Vicente T Pateno

Correspondence from the 'father of BIMP-EAGA', Chairman of the BIMP-East ASEAN Business Council, former Minister for Industry and Public Highway, and Senator on receiving the news of Shane Stone's retirement as Chief Minister. Extensive mail was received from throughout the Asia Pacific region, hence, a small selection of the correspondence has been included in the archives. Paterno observed: ''I congratulate your outstanding work to progress Northern Territory relations with Southeast Asia, particularly our region of EAGA. During your term, Darwin and Northern Territory became identified in EAGA as a close friend, our gateway to and from Australia. It takes time and some distance for people to appreciate what political leaders have achieved for them''. This was a very humbling tribute from one of ASEAN's most respected statesmen. Shane Stone's response of 27 April is attached.
