Letter from the Darwin Symphony Orchestra

21 June 2006

Correspondence from the Chairman of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra Mr Ian Kew thanking Shane Stone for the role he played in securing for the first time Commonwealth funding for the DSO through the Australia Council for the Arts. Approved by the Howard Government with the active support and encouragement of the Commonwealth Minister for the Arts and Sports, Senator the Honourable Rod Kemp. This had been a long campaign greatly assisted by a proactive Federal Arts Minister, a Federal President of the Liberal Party long committed to the fight and a Prime Minister committed to the Northern Territory - finally 'the stars were aligned'. Ian Kew had a long history of involvement and assisting the DSO dating from his time as Northern Territory Manager of Shell & Chairman's Representative. Correspondence also included congratulations on the award of the Companion of the Order of Australia.
