Letter of response to Des Morrison's congratulations on Shane Stone's Award of the Companion of the Order of Australia. Shane Stone always preferred the option in politics of fear over affection hence he welcomed Des Morrison's comments whilst others might have been offended. He is firmly on the public record as saying such and makes the point that modern day political leaders who crave affection don't understand ''It is a competency contest, not a popularity contest''. And to borrow an oft made quote ''If you want a friend in politics get a dog''.
