Terence aka Terry John Effeney

Former CEO ENERGEX Limited; 29 August 1961 to 30 March 2018. When Terry retired a commemorative book was put together to mark the occasion. Shane Stone wrote "When I was first appointed Chairman of ENERGEX Terry was very direct and matter of fact - on a few things. He barely disguised his expression which said it all - ‘’here we go again’’ - you get that on big jobs. Terry explained that ENERGEX, an electricity distributor was akin to a transport company. If only other senior managers in Government had such clarity of vision and understanding of what we were about. Terry was passionate about ENERGEX, his work colleagues and commitment to service. Not wishing to oversimply and understate his outstanding contribution Terry understood the importance of keeping the lights on. His commitment to safety and the welfare of the blue-collar workers was the stuff of legend. Every weather crisis and natural disaster we faced he led from the front. I am sure Terry tired of my demands yet the 3 years we worked together he was the consummate professional. Terry had learned to navigate the competing demands of successive Governments of different political colour. No one is indispensable however in Terry’s case he will be missed and Queensland will be poorer for his retirement. I wish him every success in whatever role awaits him". Terry Effeney AO subsequently conferred an Officer of the Order of Australia in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. His citation read ''For distinguished service to the energy supply sector, particularly in Queensland, through planning and delivery programs, to infrastructure management, and to the community''.
