Opening of the 'Mike Reed Walk' Tracey Lodge

28 June 1995

Opening of the 'Mike Reed Walk' at Tracey Aged Care located at 87 Woods Street Darwin. Tracey Aged Care had close links to the Darwin Pensioners Senior Citizens Association Inc (founded by the late Peter Spillett and Ted Dickson). Shane Stone was the Patron, a role he inherited from his predecessor Member for Port Darwin the Hon Tom Harris. Tracey Aged Care was located in the Port Darwin electorate and was subsequently sold off and the site redeveloped with apartments. For many years it was the only inner city facility catering for the old, frail and those suffering dementia and related illnesses. The Deputy Chief Minister Mike Reed had long been a supporter of Tracey Lodge and the 'Mike Reed Walk' was an acknowledgement of his commitment to aged care. Beth Balke, President Darwin Pensioners Senior Citizens Association (based at Spillett House Smith Street), Tracey Aged Care Manager and local GP Dr David Meadows.
