Chief Minister's Reception to mark the retirement of Jim Dorling

Reception hosted by Chief Minister Shane Stone to mark the retirement of Northern Territory Parliamentary draftsman Mr Jim Dorling. James aka Jim Alan Dorling, following his matriculation, joined the Commonwealth Public Service as a cadet patrol officer with the Northern Territory Administration (in both the Top End and Central Australia). Jim undertook studies towards a law degree at the Australian National University and, following graduation, returned to Darwin to work for the Department of Law. He was subsequently appointed as Parliamentary Counsel and remained in that role until his retirement from the public sector. Jim was responsible for the drafting of much of the legislation which now forms the basis for the conduct of government business in self-governing the Territory. He was a member of the Navy Reserve Legal Panel in the Top End. Dorling Street in the new suburb of Muirhead was named after Jim on 14 March 2014. Jim Dorling passed away on 23 November 2012 survived by his wife Mary and children Alan and Ann.
