Mrs. Minna Sitzler AM

29 November 1996

The Administrator of the Northern Territory is an official appointed by the Governor-General of Australia to represent the Crown in right of the Northern Territory. They perform functions similar to those of a State Governor. In times past, the Chief Justice acted in the absence of the Administrator. The Stone Government resolved to formalise the appointment of a prominent citizen as the Deputy. As a resident of Alice Springs, Mrs Sitzler (daughter of the famous Paster Albrecht of Hermannsburg) and accomplished citizen in her own right, was well placed as a Centralian to represent an important constituency outside of Darwin. Minna was the first-ever appointed Deputy to the Administrator (at the time His Honour Dr Neil Conn AO), and served from February 17, 1997, to November 30, 2001. Photographed during a courtesy call on Chief Minister Shane Stone, NT Parliament House, Darwin.
