Darwin Ambon Yacht Race

22 July 1996

As nightfall approached day 1 we were becalmed of Cape Fourcroy on the Tiwi Islands. The westernmost point and lighthouse on Bathurst Island is about 100 kilometers from Nguiu. We sat out there for hours drifting. The race precluded any use of the yachts engine. Crew comprised the 'Skipper' Jim Noonan, navigator Mal Sciacca, cook Shane Stone, deckhands Rob Stewart (also photographer), George Watkins and Tim Prichard. The yacht owned by Jim Noonan was a monohull Mottle 33 designed by Australian Joe Adams - named the 'Frances Claire'.
