Naval Association NT

26 June 1997

The Naval Association of Australia promotes mateship, community spirit, Australia and the Royal Australian Navy. It began life in 1920 as the Ex-Navalmen’s Association and in 1960 changed its name to The Naval Association of Australia. In 2012 the National Council decided on the motto -‘Once Navy – Always Navy’ which is also the motto of the Royal Naval Association. The Naval Association of Australia has grown to be the largest organisation representing serving and former members of the Navy with about 100 Sub Sections throughout Australia. There are also a number of various ship associations and other associations who have affiliated with the Association. In 1995 Chief Minister Shane Stone an active Navy Reservists accepted an invitation to become Patron of the NT Association in place of CDRE Eric Johnston, former NOCNA and Administrator of the NT. Subsequent Patrons included CAPT Ian Watts RAN (Rtd) former NOCNA, Ted Egan AO and John Anitomatis AO, former Administrators of the NT. Shane Stone hosted an annual ‘sunset’ drinks at Parliament House. He also assisted with a number of grants in support. The driving force of the Association in the ‘Top End’ was Gail and Jim Keddie.
