Shane Stone and Mandawuy Yunupingu

Northern Territory Minister for Education and Training the Honourable Shane L. Stone MLA and Yirrkala School Principal Mandawuy Yunupingu. In 1989 Mandawuy became assistant principal of the Yirrkala Community School – his former school – and was principal for the following two years 1990-1991. Mandawuy established the Yothu Yindi Band in 1986 and ultimately left teaching to concentrate on the success of the band. Minister Stone approved special leave on full pay to assist and encourage the success of Mandawuy as the Yothu Yindi 'front man'.
