The Indonesia Province of West Nusa Tenggara (known in English as Lombok) is an Indonesian island east of Bali and west of Sumbawa known for picturesque beaches and prime surf. Nearby by are the Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno). During his tenure as Governor, Colonel Warsito transformed Lombok into a serious tourist destination. On 17 December 2017 a number of former Governors and Deputy Governors of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), were acknowledged for their contribution in laying the foundations for the development of NTB. Amongst them was Colonel Soenarto Warsito (Governor 1988 to 1989). They were awarded the title of ‘the main son’ in the form of Satya Lencana Karya Satya from the Indonesian President Joko Widodo through the NTB Governor, TGH M Zainul Majdi. They were 9 figures who had made lasting contributions to the progress of NTB.
