27 August 1997
Letter sent by the NT Minister for the Railway to those who had worked on the project. Minister Coulter played a critically important role in keeping the project current and 'alive'. The commitment of Prime Minister Howard to Chief Minister Stone in August 1997 made the railway a reality. If ever there was an example of ''success has many parents and failure is an orphan'' this was one such occasion. The Chief Minister who finally presided over the opening and arrival of the first train Clare Martin once described the railway as a faded dream. Neither Shane Stone or Barry Coulter were invited to the official opening.
