Pam Stone and Terry Stone Internment of Ashes and Graveside Service Wodonga Cemetery

14 November 2022

Mrs. Pam Stone OAM JP passed away on 6 August 2022 at age 93. Pam had a long and distinguished history in Albury Wodonga detailed on this website. Her son Terry Stone passed away in East Timor on 2nd June 2001. Terry's Requiem Mass was held at St Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Cathedral. His ashes were partly distributed on the beach in Dili, East Timor, part at his favorite fishing spot on the Kiewa River, and part on Darwin Harbor following the Requiem. A portion was held back for final internment at a place and time to be determined. Various commemorations of Terry's life were subsequently held in Albury. Pam had lamented the passing of Terry and in one of her final conversations with Shane expressed the wish that she could somehow be reunited with Terry. The decision was taken to intern the remainder of Terry's Ashes in the grave alongside his father Les Stone and mother Pam Stone in Wodonga Cemetery. The Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish North Albury the Rev Father Martin Cruikshank PP had administered Pam the Last Rites and prayed with her until her passing officiated at the graveside internment. Because of Pam's advanced age and the fact that she had outlived many of her friends and former colleagues Internment of Ashes and Graveside Service was preferred to a Requiem Mass. The internment was widely advertised in local media. Various tributes were received from community representatives together with wide local media coverage including a front page of the local Border Morning Mail. Former Liberal Federal Member for Deakin Phil Barresi delivered a eulogy and also a local historian and close friend Howard Jones OAM.
