Miniature Dame Grand Cross Order of the Ethiopian Star with jewels. The Order of the Star of Ethiopia was founded by Emperor Menelik II in 1884-85, in his capacity as Negus of Shoa, before he became Emperor of Ethiopia in 1889. It was originally awarded in five classes. The first class was the Grand Cross, called Negus. The Order was most widely awarded of all the Ethiopian Imperial Orders, often to foreign diplomats and statesmen and is awarded today by the Crown Council to men and women The ribband comprises three bands of equal width, in red, yellow and green. The Award of the Grand Cross carries the appellation of Her /His Excellency and the post-nominals GCSE. Josephine Stone was conferred Dame Grand Cross Order of the Ethiopian Star with jewels by the Crown Council of Ethiopia.
